Florida is a key primary state and a lot of spending occurred there in the last election. Now, some are fed up with a state political system overrun with untraceable money. The plan is to remove a $500 cap and allow donors to contribute as much as they like, such as in the state of Virginia. This system has proven to drive large donors underground, and pushed into creating political war chests that can not be detected or accounted for, not because the donors seek rocks to hide under, but because the system has deemed it through questionable policies.
It seems reasonable to me that “Integrity Florida” has it right. They are pushing for an end to the charade of finance laws that are now in place in favor of allowing donors to contribute as much as they like, remove restrictions for this to happen, and shine light on those donations by placing their activity with their names on a website within 24 hours of giving. This effort is worth watching as the federal laws might also take some lessons worth considering. If this last election was any indication of countering election fraud, I wish “Integrity Florida” all the luck in the world.
